The Galveston County Daily News was named honorable mention for best special section by The Associated Press Sports Editors contest on Wednesday. The Daily News Football Preview was selected as one of the top sports special sections among papers under in circulation in the country for . This is an great achievement for The Daily News and its sports staff said Sports Editor Joshua Buckley. We put a lot of hard work into making this section for our readers and it s a great feeling to have it recognized on a national level. The page section included in the Aug. edition of the paper featured stories featuring Galveston County s high school football teams and former gridiron stars playing college. Buckley Corey Roepken Joey D. Richards and Princess McDowell wrote the stories. The cover featuring the top six quarterbacks from the county was designed by Barbara Myers using pictures taken by head photographer Jennifer Reynolds. Everyone involved with this project deserves a lot of c! redit for our success in this prestigious contest Buckley said. It was a team effort all the way around.
