HCG, is not an anabolic/an-drogenic steroid but a natural protein hormone which develops in the placenta of a pregnant woman. HCG is manufac-tured from the urine of pregnant women since it is excreted in un-changed form from the blood via the woman’s urine, passing through the kidneys. The commercially available HCG is sold as a dry substance and can be used both in men and women. in women injectable HCG allows for ovulation since it influences the last stages of the development of the ovum, thus stimulating ovulation. In a man HCG stimulates pro-duction of androgenic hormones (testosterone). For this reason athletes use injectable HCG to increase the testosterone produc-tion. HCG is often used in combination with anabolic/androgenic steroids during or after treatment.

Since the body usually needs a certain amount of time to get its testoster-one production going again, the athlete, after discontinuing ste-roid compounds, experiences a difficult transition phase which often goes hand in hand with a considerable loss in both strength and muscle mass. Administering HCG directly after steroid treat-ment helps to reduce this condition because HCG increases the testosterone production in the testes very quickly and reliably. In the event of testicular atrophy caused by mega doses and very long periods of usage, HCG also helps to quickly bring the testes back to their original condition (size). Since occasional injections of HCG during steroid intake can avoid a testicular atrophy, many athletes use HCG for two to three weeks in the middle of their steroid treatment. It is often observed that during this time the athlete makes his best progress with respect to gains in both strength and muscle mass. Those who are on the juice all year round, who might suffer psychological consequences or who would perhaps risk the breakup of a relationship because of this should consider this drawback when taking HCG in regular in-tervals. A reduced libido and spermatogenesis due to steroids, in most cases, can be successfully cured by treatment with HCG.

Most athletes, however, use HCG at the end of a treatment in order to avoid a “crash,” that is, to achieve the best possible transition into “natural training.” A precondition, however, is that the steroid intake or dosage be reduced slowly and evenly before taking HCG. Although HCG causes a quick and significant increase of the endogenic plasma- testosterone level, unfortunately it is not a perfect remedy to prevent the loss of strength and mass at the end of a steroid treatment. Although HCG does stimulate endogenous testosterone production, it does not help in re-estab-lishing the normal hypothalamic/pituitary testicular axis. The hypothalamus and pituitary are still in a refractory state after prolonged steroid usage, and remain this way while HCG is being used, because the endogenous testosterone produced as a-result of the exogenous HCG represses the endogenous LH production. Once the HCG is discontinued, the athlete must still go through a re-adjustment period. This is merely delayed by the HCG use.” For this reason experienced athletes often take Clomid and Clenbuterol following HCG intake or they immediately begin an-other steroid treatment. Some take HCG merely to get off the “steroids” for at least two to three weeks.

HCG package insert states clearly that HCG “has no known effect of fat mobilization, appetite or sense of hunger, or body fat distribution.” It further states, “HCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity, it does not increase fat losses beyond that resulting from caloric restriction. 6000 I.U. of HCG in a single injection resulted in elevated testosterone levels for six days after the injection. At a dosage of 1500 I.U. the pharmatestosterone level increases by 250-300% (2.5-3fold) com-pared to the initial value. The athlete should inject one HCG ampule every 5 days. Since the testosterone level remains considerably elevated for several days, it is unnecessary to inject HCG more than once every 5 days. The effective dosage for ath-letes is usually 2000-5000 I.U. per injection and should-as al-ready mentioned-be injected every 5 days. HCG should only be taken for a few weeks. If HCG is taken by male athletes over many weeks and in high dosages, it is possible that the testes will respond poorly to a later HCG intake and a release of the body’s own LH. This could result in a permanent inadequate gonadal function.

HCG can in part cause side effects similar to those of injectable testosterone. A higher testosterone production also goes hand in hand with an elevated estrogen level which could result in gynecomastia. This could manifest itself in a temporary growth of breasts or reinforce already existing breast growth in men. Farsighted athletes thus combine HCG with an antiestrogen. Male athletes also report more frequent erections and an increased sexual desire. In high doses it can cause acne vulgaris and the storing of minerals and water. The last point must especially be observed since the water retention which is possible through the use of HCG could give the muscle system a puffy and watery appearance. Athletes who have already increased their endogenous test-osterone level by taking Clomid and intend subsequently to take HCG could experience considerable water retention and distinct feminization symptoms (gynecomastia, tendency toward fat de-posits on the hips). This is due to the fact that high testosterone leads to a high conversion rate to estrogens. In very young ath-letes HCG, like anabolic steroids, can cause an early stunting of growth since it prematurely closes the epiphysial growth plates. Mood swings and high blood pressure can also be attributed to the intake of HCG.

HCG’s form of administration is also unusual. The substance choriongonadotropin is a white powdery freeze-dried substance which is usually used as a compress. Each package, for each HCG ampule, includes another ampule with an injection solution containing isotonic sodium chloride. This liq-uid, after both ampules have been opened in a sterile manner, is injected into the HCG ampule and mixed with the dried substance. The solution is then ready for use and should be injected intra-muscularly. If only part of the substance is injected the residual solution should be stored in the refrigerator. It is not necessary to store the unmixed HCG in the refrigerator; however, it should be kept out of light and below a temperature of 25* C. HCG is a relatively expensive compound. It costs approx. $36 -45 for 3 ampules of 5000 I.U

For some, once you ovulate, it’s like punt starting your body into motion. The benefits can last up to 6 months or more.

4) Having a baby – Yes, believe it or not, this is an selection. The same applies as the previously mentioned but the lasting effects can be much longer - for some women, it has been said up to two years!

Let’s phiz it, getting pregnant is not always as easy as it sounds. As many
stories as you have heard about unplanned pregnancies, getting pregnant should

case or another and that most couples do not get pregnant the first month

1. Try a plan for sex

There are quite a few of them out there. A recipe for sex is basically a list
of days to have sex on to try to get pregnant. My personal favorite is having
sex on days 9, 11, 12, 14, & 16 of your pattern. Of course if you don’t have
a 28 day cycle this one probably won’t work for you. Another plan is having
sex every other day starting about day 10 of your cycle.

2. Try fertility

Fertility charting involves taking your temperature at the same time every
morning before getting out of bed. You also observe for signs of ovulation and
table your cervical mucous pattern. Charting can help determine if you are ovulating
and help you to pinpoint when ovulation is occurring.

3. Use ovulation intimation kits (OPKs)

You can buy ovulation prediction kits at your local pharmacy or you can find
them even cheaper if you purchase them online. A day or two before you ovulate,
your fullness produces a surge of luteinizing hormone, LH. OPKs work by detecting
this LH surge. Follow the directions that succeed with your kit to determine how
to read the test strips, what time of day to test, and also what day of your
cycle you should begin testing. OPKs cannot sustain ovulation, but they can
help you predict ovulation before it occurs. Used in combination with fertility
charting, they are very effective in determining ovulation.

your fertility such as thyroid disorders and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).
Even infections and viral illnesses can precipitate problems getting pregnant. Your
doctor can work with you to come up with a plan for you to get pregnant.

France’s PM Pushes Financial Reform Ahead of G-20 Meeting

French Prime Minister François Fillon is in Washington to garner support for tougher international financial regulations ahead of the April 2 Group of 20 economic summit in London. While the Obama administration wants Europe to increase its fiscal stimulus to solve the global economic crisis, the French prime minister says financial reforms must first be addressed.
French Prime Minister François Fillon says it is the duty of the G-20 group of the world’s largest developed and emerging economies next month to achieve concrete results in resolving the global economic crisis. He says the best way to do this is by agreeing to stricter oversight of international financial institutions.
In a speech at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington on Monday, Mr. Fillon listed four key issues that France wants to top the agenda at the economic summit.
Mr. Fillon said the four pillars for lasting recovery are reforming financial regulations, supporting economic growth, rescuing banks and providing aid to the countries suffering most from the economic crisis.
In addition, he said hedge funds must be subject to real oversight. Ratings agencies, which Mr. Fillon said helped fuel the crisis, must adopt rules for dealing with conflicts of interest and offshore banking centers, which often allow clients to evade paying taxes in their home countries, need to be vigorously regulated.
Mr. Fillon also struck back at critics in the media and within the Obama administration who say Europe needs to spend more on government economic stimulus.
The French prime minister said the crisis was created by an excess of public debt and that it will not be solved by creating even more. He says European Union member states already have implemented large stimulus packages that account for more than three percent of Europe’s gross domestic product.
Mr. Fillon expressed confidence in U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s newest initiative to help stabilize the banking system by providing guarantees and low-interest loans to investors willing to purchase toxic assets from banks.
Mr. Fillon said he prefers the idea of a public-private partnership to buy up the bad assets, and that this will prompt European countries to consider similar measures.
While in Washington, Mr. Fillon also met with Vice President Joe Biden and Lawrence Summers, the head of President Barack Obama’s National Economic Council.

Dental practice caused patient an uneven bite, suit claims

A Madison County man has filed suit against an Alton dental practice, alleging the dentists did not properly diagnose him with TMJ and performed a procedure that made his bite worse.

Gene Silveus claims he visited Humbert Road Dentistry on March 16, 2007, where dentists grinded down the teeth and crowns of the left side of his jaw, causing him to have an uneven and unbalanced bite.

In the suit filed March 6 in Madison County Circuit Court, Silveus claims Dr. Terry Ortman and Dr. Timothy Pranger improperly worked on his mouth, causing him to suffer acute and prolonged physical and mental pain and suffering.

They also failed to initially diagnose Silveus’ TMJ and bi-lateral click before they grinded on his teeth, the complaint says.

The two dentists failed to render dental services consistent with Silveus’ needs, failed to adequately evaluate his condition, failed to diagnose and treat him, failed to take a proper history before grinding on his teeth and failed to fully explain the procedure to him, the suit states.

“After assuming the care and treatment of plaintff, Gene Silveus, the defendant, Dr. Timothey Pranger, D.M.D., through his authorized agent, employee or partner, co-defendant Terry Ortman, D.D.S., committed battery against the plaintiff by intentionally grinding down his teeth and crowns on the left side of his jaw without plaintiff’s consent,” the suit states.

Silveus claims they also failed to properly equilibrate the left and right side of his teeth on the same day.

1. Consider it to be a mid-protracted term investment - the property market is likely to fall and then stabilize for a few years before rising again.

Bugatti Veyron production run nearly sold out?

When Bugatti started production of the Veyron back in 2005, it was supposed to build 300 examples. For a long time, that total seemed pretty ambitious considering the seven-figure price tag on the most super of contemporary supercars, but according to Molsheim, all but 50 have been built and sold. Add to that another 150 examples of the Grand Sport roadster version and you’ve got 450. Whether special editions like the Pur Sang, Sang Noir and Hermes are counted as part of the original production figures or considered supplemental specials is insignificant, considering that only a handful of each are to be built.

The one wrinkle that has us wondering about all of these million-dollar supercars is that it was only last March when it was announced that Bugatti had sold 220 cars (of which only 132 had been built). Given how long it took them to get to 220, that seems like one heck of an order ramp-up, particularly given the state of the global economy.

The bottom line is that if you’ve been dragging your feet over whether to spend that extra million on a Bugatti or not, better make your mind up fast. Like, Veyron fast.

Classic cars worth $106,000 stolen in Loudon County

Three vintage cars with a combined value of more than $106,000 were stolen early Thursday morning from a classic car lot in Loudon County, authorities said.

The break-in at Smoky Mountain Traders, 11840 U.S. Highway 321, took place about 5 a.m. when a group of thieves disabled the gate and drove the vehicles off the lot, according to Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Detective Charlie Cosner.

“It took about a minute or less,” Cosner said.

The cars were described as an orange and white 1972 Pontiac GTO Judge convertible, a red and black 1971 Chevelle Super Sport convertible, and a red and white 1972 Super Sport Chevelle, said business owner Keith Bledsoe.

“I’m sure they loaded them into an enclosed car trailer after they drove them off,” Bledsoe said. “I’m hoping that someone was on U.S. 321 (Thursday) morning and saw something.”

Bledsoe said he used to build houses for a living but decided to open the car lot in May when the construction industry slowed. “I put my life savings into these old cars,” he said.

Bledsoe said he was able to determine the time of the break-in using a security camera but it was too early to say whether the camera’s images will be useful in identifying the three suspects.

He is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the cars and the convictions of those responsible for the thefts.

On Sunday, V. Eugene Robinson of New Hampshire, the Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop, will deliver the invocation at the kickoff event celebrating the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States. His part in the inaugural festivities is appropriate symbolism in light of Mr. Obama’s choice of anti-gay Pastor Rick Warren, leader of a Southern California mega-church, to deliver the invocation at the swearing-in ceremony Tuesday at the Capitol.

Mr. Warren was a high-profile supporter of California’s Proposition 8, which won at the polls last November and repealed the state’s same-sex marriage rights. Mr. Obama’s supporters in the homosexual community and other civil rights advocates have been justifiably disappointed that Mr. Obama would give an anti-gay fundamentalist such a visible stage. Bishop Robinson’s appearance will ameliorate some of that sting.

Symbolism is helpful. But if Mr. Obama is the “fierce advocate” of equal rights for gays that he says he is, it will be followed soon by concrete action. That would include repeal of the unjust “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, which forces homosexuals in the military to deny their true nature or be thrown out. Polling shows that the public has come around to supporting gays serving openly in the military. The new president and Congress should repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell” this year.

1.Average daily balance — This is the method by which most credit cards calculate your payment due. An average daily balance is determined by adding each day’s balance and then dividing that total by the number of days in a billing cycle. The average daily balance is then multiplied by a card’s monthly periodic rate, which is calculated by dividing the annual percentage rate by 12. A card with an annual rate of 18 percent would have a monthly periodic rate of 1.5 percent. If that card had a $500 average daily balance it would yield a monthly finance charge of $7.50.

2.APR(Annual percentage rate) — A yearly rate of interest that includes fees and costs paid to acquire the loan. Lenders are required by law to disclose the APR. The rate is calculated in a standard way, taking the average compound interest rate over the term of the loan, so borrowers can compare loans.

3.Balance transfer — The process of moving an unpaid credit card debt from one issuer to another. Card issuers sometimes offer teaser rates to encourage balance transfers coming in and balance-transfer fees to discourage them from going out.

4.Cash-advance fee — A charge by the bank for using credit cards to obtain cash. This fee can be stated in terms of a flat per-transaction fee or a percentage of the amount of the cash advance. For example, the fee may be expressed as follows: “2%/$10?. This means that the cash advance fee will be the greater of 2 percent of the cash advance amount or $10.

NEW YORK, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Broadway producers are finding it tough to attract investors for new productions as the global financial crisis begins to take a toll on the Great White Way.

And sluggish tickets sales have caused the closure of shows, adding to the sense of gloom on Broadway.

While several shows traditionally close at the start of the year to make way for new productions ahead of the Tony Awards, more than usual are taking their final bow — 12 shows have finished and another four are due to close by Feb. 28.

The economic turmoil “certainly had an impact on my show and on a number of shows that might have made it through this coming summer,” said producer Margo Lion, whose show “Hairspray” closed on Jan. 4 after more than six years on Broadway.

Several shows could not secure the financing needed to open in the coming months — “Godspell,” “Vanities” and “For Colored Girls” — and producers blamed the economy, said Charlotte St. Martin, executive director of trade group The Broadway League.

“It’s not uncommon for shows not to get financing if they’re not sure-fire hits in tough economic times,” St. Martin said. “Even in great times, a lot of shows don’t get financed.”

“Hair” was a hit on Broadway and London’s West End in the 1960s, but Andrew Hamingson, executive director of New York’s Public Theater, which will bring “Hair” back to Broadway in March, said lining up investors for the show was difficult.

“At the time we were out looking for investors for the show it was at the same moment … when all those companies (like Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch) either disappeared or they were acquired by other companies,” Hamingson said.

Americans Turn to Complementary, Alternative Medicine for Pain Relief

Complementary and alternative medical practices - which include health products and therapies that aren’t generally considered part of conventional medicine - are frequently a part of Americans’ health care regimens. That’s the finding of a new survey released this month by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), which is part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

Thirty-eight percent of American adults are using some form of complementary and alternative medicine, known as CAM, to help with their health.

NCCAM Director Dr. Josephine Briggs says the new survey provides the most current, comprehensive and reliable source of information on Americans’ use of unconventional remedies such as medicinal herbs, acupuncture, yoga, meditation, massage and chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation.

Most of these patients, Briggs says, hope to alleviate pain.

“The most common reason why people turn to complementary and alternative medicine in our survey results is chronic back pain - far and away, the leading reason to use complementary and alternative medicine,” she says. “Neck pain, joint pain, headache: All these other conditions are also given as common reasons. But chronic back pain is the leading reason, a very common and difficult condition to treat.”

As the federal government’s lead agency for scientific research into CAM therapies, the center funds hundreds of projects and trials, supports training for researchers and encourages integration of proven CAM therapies into conventional practice.

Another important part of NCCAM’s mission is to publicize news and information about complementary and alternative medicine, and promote discussions about it between patients and their health care providers.

Briggs notes, “It is very important that people talk to their physicians and other health care providers about their use of complementary and alternative medicine.”

This series offers recipes with an eye towards empowering you to cook healthy meals every day. Produce, seasonal and locally grown when possible, and a well-stocked pantry are the linchpins of a good diet, and accordingly, each week’s recipes will revolve around a particular type of produce or a pantry item. This is food that is vibrant and light, full of nutrients but by no means ascetic, fun to cook and a pleasure to eat.

1 1/2 pounds winter squash of your choice

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1 medium onion, chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley

1 teaspoon minced fresh sage

3 eggs

1/2 cup low-fat milk

2 ounces Gruyère cheese, grated (1/2 cup)

Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

1 ounce Parmesan cheese, grated (1/4 cup)

1. Preheat the oven to 425ºF. Cover a baking sheet with foil and brush lightly with olive oil. Cut the squash in half, scoop out the seeds and stringy membranes, brush the cut sides with olive oil and lay cut side down on the foil-covered baking sheet. Bake 40 minutes, or until soft enough to pierce easily with a knife. Remove from the heat and allow to cool, then peel and either mash with a fork, puree in a food processor fitted with the steel blade, or finely dice. You should have about 2 cups of pureed or finely diced squash.

2. Turn the oven down to 375ºF and oil a 2-quart gratin or baking dish with olive oil. Heat the remaining oil over medium heat in a medium heavy skillet and add the onion. Cook, stirring, until tender, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, until fragrant, 30 seconds to a minute. Stir in the parsley and sage, and squash, and remove from the heat. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

4. Beat the eggs in a large bowl and whisk in the milk. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt and freshly ground pepper to taste. Stir in the squash mixture and the Gruyère. Taste and adjust seasonings. Scrape into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle the Parmesan over the top.

5. Bake 30 to 40 minutes, until lightly browned on the top and sizzling. Serve hot, warm, or room temperature.

Yield: Serves 4 to 6

For some, Christmas is more than a tree, gifts: Seasonal fanatics have a holiday obsession

A hurricane and a recession could easily spread a serious case of the bah, humbugs this season.

But not for the Christmas fanatics. For these self-taught decorators who transform their homes into holiday havens thick with Santas, ornaments and things that go blink in the night, Christmas always arrives early and stays late.
A tale of two Michaels

For every Christmas addict there is an enabler. And between the months of October and December, this pretty much describes Michael Briden and Mike Lowery.

“I have the inspiration, and he has the installation,” Briden deadpans.

Briden is the collector, favoring glass ornaments by Christopher Radko and Santa figurines by Brian Kidwell and Jim Shore. He decorates each of the holiday trees in the Heights bungalow he and Lowery share — no small job, since there’s at least one tree in every downstairs room.

Lowery does the traditional “dad” jobs: hangs garland around the window frames, puts the toppers on each tree before Briden starts to decorate, picks up ornaments on his way home from hunting and fishing trips.

Every year, the two transform their handsome bungalow with sage green walls into a holiday wonderland where first-time guests are hard-pressed to focus on anything but the dé cor. As Lowery says, “Christmas has definitely exploded in this house.”

It helps that the pair co-own Another Place in Time, a garden center in the Heights that sells some of the decorative items and ornaments Briden collects.

Briden, who is also a loan operations manager at Integrity Bank, admits that he is particular about the quality and presentation of his collections.

He likes his Santas to look friendly, not scary. He enjoys creating new vignettes with his Christmas ornaments; this year, Santa’s Sweet Shop appears in his kitchen window, with a jar of gingerbread men and cookies and glass candies. And each of his Christmas trees has a theme, from the hunting and fishing tree in Lowery’s room, to the Grinch tree in the bathroom, to the slim and showy “Feathered Friends” tree in the family room.

The show-stopper is “The Night Before Christmas” tree, which gathers Santas, reindeers, gifts and all the usual Christmas Eve suspects.

When one goes to so much trouble to create a Christmas atmosphere, it’s a shame not to share it. Briden estimates that he and Lowery host half a dozen social gatherings every December so that friends can see the house.

As thrilled as Briden is with this year’s décor, he is always in the market for something new. Gazing at his animal tree, he ticks off the rarer ornaments that adorn it. A buffalo. A rhinoceros. A skunk. A giraffe. But he can’t help but notice what he’s missing.

“I don’t have a platypus,” Briden says, “and I don’t have any dinosaurs.”

The holiday decorating gene is strong with Jennifer Emshoff. Growing up in Klein with a mother who’s a part-time interior designer, she learned early that every holiday deserves festive dé cor and special dishes.

So when Emshoff, a senior contract analyst with El Paso Exploration & Production, moved into her Eastwood bungalow in 2001, it was a fait accompli that the holidays would be well-represented.

Her Christmas decorating schedule begins the day after Thanksgiving at her childhood home, when her mom starts pulling out her own Christmas finery. Emshoff is always on hand to assist.

“I give her all day Friday,” she says, “then I come back and start working on my own house. It takes two full days for the inside and then a night to put up the lights on the outside.”

This year presented a new challenge for Emshoff, who recently transformed her bright blue and yellow living space into a richer, ranchy style, with dark leather and rustic touches. This meant a new backdrop for Christmas.

Dominating the living room is a full-size white tree with shiny, multicolored ornaments, many with a Texas theme. On the floor of the dining room, ranch meets Christmas in a pair of ceramic cowboy boots stuffed with holly and red berries. The formal dining table is set for Christmas dinner and a long kitchen counter that usually serves as the bar has become a winter village.

For rent: Is office space the final frontier in financial crisis?

As the recession devastates the banking, brokerage, retail and automobile industries, landlords and commercial real estate brokers in lower Fairfield County ponder when and if the office market will be the next victim.

The region could be vulnerable because financial service companies rent much of the office space in Greenwich and Stamford. Greenwich has been called the nation’s unofficial hedge fund capital.

“We are still in a very good market. However, a lot of our clients are financial services companies,” said Jim Fagan, senior managing director of the Westchester County, N.Y., and Connecticut operations of New York City-based Cushman & Wakefield Inc. commercial real estate. “They include everything from hedge funds to reinsurance companies to investment banks, not to mention advertising agencies and other professional services companies.”

Those former mainstays in the office market will be shrinking, he said.

“As tenants try to lower their fixed costs, they are slimming down their commercial real estate exposure, where it is practical and pragmatic,” Fagan said. “The market is going through an adjustment. While it was white hot in July of 2007. It certainly is less than that now.”

John Hannigan, principal of Choyce Peterson commercial real estate in Stamford, said, “The quantity of tenants looking to grow has decreased precipitously.”

Reported office vacancies are not really bad - yet.

In the third quarter, 17 percent of the 14.5 million square feet of office space in Stamford was available for lease or sublease, up slightly from 16.4 percent at the same time last year, according to an average taken from five real estate firms. Available space are locations that are empty or slated to become vacant soon.

The numbers do not include large, single-occupant buildings such as the main UBS AG investment bank and trading floor in downtown Stamford.

But vacancy reports might not tell the whole story, said Jeff Gage, executive managing director at the Stamford office of Chicago-based Jones Lang LaSalle commercial real estate. Some companies have space they are not using but will not admit it unless a broker approached them about subleasing, Gage said.

Sublease space, that which is leased but currently unused, is rising in Fairfield County, he said.

“We are going to see vacancy rates going up to 25 percent or higher (countywide),” Gage said. “My guess is that 40 percent of that will be sublease space.”

The big subleases include 112,000 square feet that UBS put on the market at 201 Tresser Blvd. in Stamford at Purdue Pharma’s headquarters. Others in the city are 50,000 square feet from Legg Mason at First Stamford Place and 120,000 square feet at 290 Harbor Drive.

Greenwich has smaller office vacancies, but its 4.8 million square feet of office space depends largely on financial services, hedge funds and private equity firms. About 9.3 percent of the town’s office space was available in the third quarter, which was unchanged from the same time last year.

“Greenwich and Stamford are not immune from the downsizing and reorganization from a new model of doing business,” said John Goodkind, managing principal at the Greenwich office of New York City-based Newmark Knight Frank commercial real estate. “The days of abundance are gone.”

“Large users are unlikely to make decisions on space unless they have to,” he said, referring to lease expirations.

On the positive side, Goodkind said many people who had worked for hedge funds, financial institutions and banks will be looking for office space in which to start their own companies.

“We have already seen significant numbers of new companies looking for smaller spaces,” he said. “That will be the mode for the next 12 to 18 months.”

But Gerald Celente, a trends forecaster known for gloomy predictions, said the downturn in the retail sector will affect office space because fewer customers will exist for service firms such as ad agencies.

“In 2009, the focus will broaden to include a range of calamities that will leave no sector unscathed,” Celente said in a report issued by his Rhinebeck, N.Y.-based Trends Research Institute. “Next in line is retail, which accounts for some 70 percent of consumer spending, 26 percent of which is holiday sales.”

“Add to the (retail) empties the commercial space vacated by defunct financial firms and an array of troubled businesses from restaurants to architectural firms, to high-tech operations, to offset printers, etc.,” the report said. “The inescapable result (that we predicted over a year ago and is only now being discussed in the business media) is a commercial real estate bust that will be costlier, wreak greater havoc and prove more intractable than the residential market decline.”

Local landords, by contrast, are more optimistic.

“We have been here before (in a recession), and we will get through it,” said Jo Ann McGrath, director of leasing for the Merritt 7 Corporate Park in Norwalk. “We just have to stay positive.”

She said the 1.4 million square feet of office space in Merritt 7’s six buildings is 95 percent occupied.

A 51,000 square feet sublease might occur in the complex’s 301 Merritt 7 building. Applied Biosystems is moving out of 301 Merritt 7 in July because it merged with Invitrogen Corp.

Applied Biosystems’s lease expires in 2011, and it has an option to sublet the space, McGrath said.

Margaret Carlson, director of leasing for New York City-based RFR Realty’s seven office buildings in downtown Stamford, said the market is slowing, but not to a crisis stage.

“We are still continuing to sign deals, and we are starting to see concessions for tenants creep in,” Carlson said. “Velocity is slowing down, but we remain optimistic. There are a lot of deals out in the marketplace, and we do not have a lot of sublease space in our portfolio.”

RFR’s Stamford buildings are 90 percent leased, she said.

Another landlord representative, Jeff Newman of W&M Properties, said the recession offers a chance to recruit new tenants. W&M manages First Stamford Place and Metro Center office complexes in Stamford and the MerrittView office building in Norwalk.

“We are well-positioned to ride out a down market,” Newman said. “We always have more than enough cash flow to cover debt service and operating needs.”

Gage of Jones Lang LaSalle predicted rents will drop 20 percent to 30 percent during the recession, which offers local companies a chance to move into better buildings.

In March, Stamford-based Choyce Peterson began telling its clients to pursue renovation subsidies and lower rent from landlords.

The average asking rent for Class A office space in downtown Stamford is $48 per square foot per year, according to Cushman & Wakefield.

“We have been out there ahead of this (recession) news and have been meeting with many area companies to help them navigate these tough economic times, with regard to their office space,” said Hannigan of Choyce Peterson.

“The smart landlord are the ones who will lead the market in (lower) pricing,” Gage said. “If you follow the market, you are already too late.”

Getting a refinance on your mortgage is common practice nowadays due to the drop in interest rates and the receptiveness of borrowers toward the idea of refinancing. Although many have vouched for its benefits, house owners should evaluate their personal preferences, financial standing, and current mortgage status and compare these with the various options available before planning their next move.

As with any mortgage transactions, a refinancing exercise will involve transaction costs such as attorney fees, points, appraisal fees, inspection fees and prepayment penalties. All these hike up the cost of refinancing, which need to be balanced out with the cost savings obtained from switching loans in the first place. As a rule of thumb, if you plan to stay in your current property for the long-term, transaction costs will be offset with savings in repayment amounts over the long-run. Therefore, refinancing will then be a good option for you.

4. Tax deduction possible
Refinancing may help you regain tax deductions on interest if you have already used up your allocated amount for tax deductions. Therefore, with a new mortgage, you will be able to deduct interests paid from your taxable income, thus helping to reduce your taxes payable.

Front yard decorations get more elaborate for WVC couple

A West Valley man does not need many hands to make light work — he has two to make 18,000 of them light up his front yard.

Dan Nelson has made and bought Christmas decorations for about eight years, and he is planning to expand his collection.

“Every year, I just want it to be brighter,” Nelson said. “I have more lights in my shed — in boxes that I don’t take out — than most people put up.”

“I think he’s obsessed, but I think it’s a good obsession,” said Jewel Nelson, his wife.

Dan Nelson, an architect, became fond of making Christmas decorations after a friend had asked Nelson to help with his. Ironically, the friend lived on Christmas Street.

Nelson got hooked.

“People go on vacations, and I buy Christmas lights,” he said.

In his front yard, Nelson has 10 ?plywood angels representing his granddaughters and 11 gingerbread boys representing grandsons. Each of them has a name written on it, and its eyes are painted, respective to the grandchild it represents.

Nelson said he made 21 reindeer for his friends and family members during the second year.

Among other decorations are reindeer and moose, three wise men and a nativity scene, a snowman, two soldier boys and pine trees, all decked out in lights and connected to 10 outlets. Onlookers can also hear Christmas songs in the background.

Nelson said he started getting his house into a festive mood the week before Halloween. He has since spent every weekend adding decorations.

Although the rest of Bluebird Drive doesn’t shine as brightly as the Nelsons’ home, neighbors don’t seem to mind. One of the neighbors, Randy Garcia, let Dan Nelson use a corner of his yard to set up some moose and pine trees.

“We’re actually waiting for Dan to expand all the way over,” Garcia said.

Nelson’s lights shine from 5 to 10 p.m. every night and help Rocky Mountain Power survive the country’s economic crisis.

“I don’t look at [the electricity bill],” Dan Nelson said. “We’re on a year-round [billing plan], and it goes up every year. I probably wouldn’t do this if I looked at it.”

He said that he’s trying to buy more LED lights, which run cooler and therefore save energy.

“It’s not like we’re saving anything because he keeps adding more stuff,” Jewel Nelson said.

We all long for a quiet night’s rest. But, for some of us, the snoring just blasts our eardrums!

It’s loud and it’s irritating. But, is it serious?

“My snoring wakes me up. Could this be a warning of a problem?”

Sometimes, snoring can just be annoying to your bed partner and annoying to yourself. But, sometimes, snoring can be the indication of a more serious problem like sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a common condition that leads to interrupted breathing for very short periods of time during sleep, usually the result of narrowed airways. Untreated, it can lead to health problems including, high blood pressure, memory problems, weight gain, and headaches.

“It’s associated with nighttime awaking or daytime sleepiness, so if that’s something that is occurring where you snore at night, you awake and feel tired, you’re sleepy during the day, you should talk to your doctor about perhaps having a sleep study done,” Dr. Helena Schotland said.

Doctors may recommend a device called a CPAP, which helps keep the airway open.

Darrell from Philadelphia asked:

“I have sleep apnea, but the device hurts my nose.”

“Just because you don’t like your particular mask doesn’t mean that you are stuck with it. There are a huge number of masks. Some are nasal masks that go over your nose. Some are nose and mouth. There are also little nasal pillows that are just little prongs that go over your nostril that are great for people with claustrophobia,” Dr. Schotland said.

NEW YORK (Fortune) — If James Bond’s “License to Kill” gets revoked, he’d have no problem finding work as a corporate spy. To the short list of sectors that stand to gain from the financial crisis, add corporate intelligence firms.

They are seeing a dramatic uptick in business from a surge of banks, private equity firms, and hedge funds that need to make sure those pesky multimillion-dollar investments they made when times were good will hold up.

Firms like Control Risks, a London-based risk consultancy staffed by ex-CIA agents, and its rival, New York-based Kroll say they have seen a 20% jump in new business over the past two months. Together the two firms control the majority of the market.

These spook outfits have long carved out a lucrative business investigating corporate fraud, performing due diligence, or simply ferreting out the things not on a balance sheet - be they a company’s shady associates in Brazil or corrupt investors in Texas.

But in the recent heady times, some fast-moving investment outlets cut corners.

Now they are hoping to save face - and money - before precarious deals fall apart altogether. “The tolerance for failure has diminished,” says Jim Brooks, who heads North American operations for Control Risks.

Already, spies-for-hire are finding a couple of embarrassing flubs.

Consider the more than $300 million that one international bank lent to a sketchy Russian magnate (we’d tell you who it was, but then we’d have to kill you). When he stopped paying his bills, the bank brought in Control Risks to find out where the money had gone. (They found the Russian could have funneled money out of the country through various, seemingly unrelated shell companies.)

Women Who Breastfeed Are More Likely to Shed Their Baby Weight 6 Months After Giving Birth, Study Shows

Dec. 8, 2008 — Breastfeeding may help new mothers shed the baby weight.

A new study examines the relationship between breastfeeding and postpartum weight retention. The study, which looked at data for more than 25,000 women participating in the Danish National Birth Cohort, measured how long women breastfed and also how intensely. Each woman received a breastfeeding score. Results showed that women with higher breastfeeding scores were more likely to lose their pregnancy weight six months after giving birth.

Researchers concluded that women who gain a reasonable amount during pregnancy and breastfeed exclusively are likely to lose all pregnancy weight six months after giving birth. They also estimate that women who breastfeed retain 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) less than women who don’t breastfeed at six months after giving birth.

Participants, all recruited by their doctors during their first prenatal visit, were interviewed four times — twice during pregnancy, as well as six months after giving birth and 18 months after giving birth. They answered questions about their weight and how they were feeding their babies.

“HBI-USA, a biomedical device company, announced today its new SnorePro which uses its proprietary Dynamic Snore Detection (DSD) technology to precisely detect snores and to gently issue a programmable digital pulse to prevent snoring. The digital pulse functions like a spouse by nudging their snoring bedmate, which in turn trains the body to change sleep positions to eliminate the snoring. Bedmates of snorers lose an average of one hour of sleep per night due to snoring. The stimulation may disturb the snorer; however, it helps their bedmates to enjoy and regain sleep as they won’t have to nudge the snorer any more.”

Described as a wrist-watch style device with a built-in LCD screen, the press release goes on to say that the SnorePro can track the improvements of the snorer over time.

With the global economy in crisis and both travelers and airlines feeling the pinch, it may not seem like 2008 will be the cheeriest of holiday travel seasons. Airlines have cut flights, raised fares and added a surge of surcharges for everything from checked bags to phone bookings. Meanwhile, many travelers are postponing or canceling their holiday plans to save money.

But for travelers still planning to visit Grandma’s for Thanksgiving or spend Christmas weekend in Paris, the news isn’t all bad. There are still deals to be found, provided you shop carefully and plan ahead. Check out our 10 tips for holiday travel and find some joy this holiday season.

Avoid peak travel dates
At Thanksgiving, Wednesday is the critical outbound “avoid” day as a rule. Traveling on Thanksgiving day proper is often a breeze and more affordable; there are often cut-rate airfare deals on Thanksgiving day.

On the return, Friday morning isn’t bad at all, with each successive day getting a little busier, more difficult and more expensive through Sunday evening. The bottom line: If you are looking for a deal, you won’t find one on the peak travel days. Travel off-peak whenever possible.

Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on Thursdays this year, which means that the same advice for Thanksgiving will apply to both of these holidays — fly on the holiday itself if possible, and avoid Sunday evening at the end of the long weekend.

Book early
Haven’t booked your holiday travel yet? It’s time to stop waiting and start booking. Fares are only rising as Thanksgiving approaches, so those who hold out in hopes of a late-breaking sale are likely to get left out in the cold or pay a very steep price for their procrastination. Growing a Flower Bed With Beautiful Blooms

If you want your garden to have blooms of beautiful and colorful flowers, you’ll need to plant them carefully. Arrange them properly, and provide adequate care. It is even possible to have flowers blooming year-round, if you plan your garden correctly. You can choose annuals and perennials that bloom at different times of the year so that you’ll always have a colorful garden.

Before you plant the flowers, make sure that the soil is right for them. You should dig your beds down a foot and a half for two deep. While you can grow flowers in a shallower bed, they will not be as likely to thrive. Break up the dirt, making sure there are no large clumps, and spread in some sand, manure, compost, or grass clippings. Don’t pack the bottom dirt down, let it settle naturally so that the roots will be able to penetrate it and it will drain better.

Once you have the base of your flowerbed ready, make sure that you use a good mixture for the topsoil. If you want your plants to be healthy, well-rotted manure and peat moss are excellent additions to your soil. If you do use manure, make sure it doesn’t touch the roots of your plants. You can also add wood ashes in the spring, or use lime to loosen the soil.

Consider the type of soil that you naturally have in your garden, and choose a fertilizer that will help it reach the optimum balance for your plants. The fertilizer you choose should include the elements that your plants aren’t getting from the soil.

When planning the location of your plants within your flower beds and border, keep in mind the color of the blooms, even if the plant is not blooming when you purchase it. Plan for contrast in the texture and color of the flowers, but make sure that the colors will also blend in an attractive manner. For example, the bright color of Zinnias can be balanced with softer colors from chrysanthemum or cosmos.

Don’t forget to consider where you are situating the flower bed. Ideally, it should face south or southwest, but any location that gets enough sun should help your flowers thrive. You should try to plant it close to the house, so that your plants will be protected.

The Ducati Monster was originally designed by Miguel Angel Galluzzi (god bless him!) and was first launched by the Bologna superbike firm in 1993.

It is a testament to Galluzzi’s vision that the Monster now accounts for half of Ducati’s overall sales.

Like all of the best Ducati’s the Monster is an 90 degree v-twin, often called an L-twin. It has the now infamous desmodomic valve engine lovingly cradled within a tubullar steel trellis chassis.

With its initial launch in the early 1990s Ducati introduced three Monster options; M600, M750 and M900.

The M900, was the first model released in in 1993

The M600 followed a year later in 1994 and the M750 finally graced our shores in in 1996.

Later on a smaller displacement model, the M400, was developed for those countries where the tax system punishes the ownersof large capacity, high performance bikes.

The M400 was mainly aimed at the far east and pacific rim,although it was also sold in Ducatis native market;Italy. The M400 had the same engine components as the M600 but had a shorter stroke crankshaft and smaller diameter pistons.

The design of the Monster remained pretty much unchanged until around 2000, when fuel injection was added to the M900. In 2001 Ducati unveiled the S4, adding a liquid-cooled 4-valve Superbike to the range.

2001 also saw the addition of improved braking capacity using semi-floating front disc brakes with Brembo four-piston calipers, weight was further reduced with much lighter Brembo wheels, and suspension was upgraded to 43 mm Showa inverted forks.

In 2002 a special edition, the first of many; the S4 Fogarty was offered. To guarantee exclusivity it was limited to a production run of 300.

Between 2005-7 the Monster freak could choose from six basic models: the 695, 696, S2R 1000, S4R Testastretta, S4R S Testastretta, and S4R S Tricolore.

The Monster 695 replaced the Monster 620 and was the foundation of the range and offered the greatest power per CC of any Ducati air-cooled engine to date.

The new flagship model;the S4RS Testastretta was a beast and employed the engine from the 999 Superbike and was supplied with Öhlins suspension front and rear and radial front brakes.

The Monster 696 was officially launched in early April, 2008 in Barcelona. It soon became the best selling Monster in the history of the range.

Ducati Followed rapidly with the awesome Monster 1100 in September 2008.

It s wishful political thinking to imagine that the demands of religion morality and culture can be dismissed just with a comment about being beyond a candidate s pay grade. What lies behind the insistence on injecting morality into politics and what lies behind the resistance to it is a battle between two basic concepts of democracy itself between democracy as process and democracy as purpose. This conflict is hardly an aberration of the s or the Religious Right. It s a battle that was spectacularly played out years ago in the great debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas. Then as now politicians preferred their problems to come with neutral dollars and cents solutions. In slavery was legal in states and slaveholders were demanding slavery s legal! ization in the Western territories as well. These demands had paralyzed Congress and triggered bloodshed in the Kansas Territory. As the senior U.S. senator from Illinois and chair of the Senate Committee on Territories Douglas s solution was simply to let the people who lived there decide for themselves. He called this popular sovereignty and it bothered him not at all that some people in this case white settlers had the authority to decide whether other people in this case black slaves should be held in a lifetime of forced labor. Law for Douglas was mere traffic regulations So long as the proper procedures were observed what people thought was right or wrong was irrelevant. Abraham Lincoln believed as devoutly as Douglas in democracy. But it has no just application to the question of slavery. Enslaving another human being was a denial of one of the primary natural rights the right to liberty. For that reason there can be no moral right in connection with one man s making! a slave of another and no moral right in allowing a majority of white people to vote black people into slavery. But questions about moral right were exactly what Douglas believed had to be avoided in American public life. Once morality became mixed up with politics then people began looking for firearms. The genius of American democracy Douglas insisted lay in its commitment to process. Let the process of popular sovereignty dictate the outcome of political debate and people will be able to live in peace with each other surrounded by prosperity and satisfaction. But Lincoln responded that majority rule will never actually settle a question that disturbs the moral balance of the universe. A democracy without a sense of the sacredness of those rights was like a tornado hollow at the core and purposeless in direction. The real issue in the slavery controversy was the struggle between right and wrong. Anyone who ignored the real issue in the name of secularism and choice was eroding the moral capital on which democracy relies. Our reverence for w! hat Lincoln achieved keeps us from seeing that it is Douglas attitudes not his that have come to rule modern American politics. We deify democratic choice and then try to restrain choice s excesses by rules and guidelines rather than by right and honor. We conflate rights and privileges to the point where the right to life becomes a choice but a national health care system becomes a virtuous necessity. Nov. 4 (Bloomberg) — South Africa’s rand rose against the dollar as gains in stocks on better-than-expected earnings eased concern the global economy is slowing, encouraging purchases of higher-yielding assets.

The rand traded below 10 per dollar as advances in Asia and Europe boosted the MSCI World Index of stocks for a sixth straight day. South Africa’s currency strengthened even after an industry report showed vehicle sales fell for a 19th straight month in October, indicating the continent’s biggest economy is faltering.

“Globally we’re seeing a general improvement in positive sentiment which has fed through to European equities from Asia,” said Jon Harrison, an emerging-markets currency strategist in London at Dresdner Kleinwort. “Lower global interest rates help alleviate some of the strains in the financial system and that helps short-term risk appetite.”

The rand climbed as much as 1.9 percent to 9.8506 per dollar and was at 9.9125 by 1:12 p.m. in Johannesburg. It also advanced versus all 16 most-actively traded currencies monitored by Bloomberg, adding 0.7 percent to 12.6187 per euro.

South Africa’s currency still faces “challenges in the medium to long term” and will “trend much weaker” next year, Harrison said. It may slip to as low as 12 per dollar in the next three to six months, he predicted.

“Emerging markets aren’t going to avoid the impact of a global economic slowdown,” Harrison said. “We still expect to see further sell-offs in riskier asset classes.”

New software is enabling graziers to track their animals with their mobile phone.

Queensland Primary Industries and Fisheries Minister Tim Mulherin says “quick-thumbed livestock owners” can now exchange National Livestock Identification Scheme information with the NLIS database, following the launch of the new mobile phone application software.

“This new software, ‘NLIS Express’, can be easily loaded onto compatible mobile phones - providing a new way to quickly capture and transfer NLIS data,” Mr Mulherin said.

“It is going to be very useful to a lot of sectors within the livestock industry.”

Biosecurity Queensland Principal Project Officer Michael Lancaster said training would be provided to graziers in coming months.

“The training will be available to anyone who uses the NLIS database, but we also see it being of particular interest to agents,” he said.

Agent Dan Sullivan, from Sullivan Livestock in Gympie, is one of the first people in Queensland to use the new software.

Mr Sullivan said he uses NLIS Express to transfer data directly to the database on behalf of clients.

“With NLIS Express I can provide a transfer service to our clients - often while I’m still at their property,” he said.

“Often, I’ll know if the transfer has been completed before I leave the property and this has removed the need to come back to the office, freeing up my time to continue on with other business,” Mr Sullivan said.

The application was developed by MLA and is made available at no cost.

South African President Mbeki to quit

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (CNN) — South African President Thabo Mbeki agreed Saturday to resign, clearing the way for his longtime political rival, Jacob Zuma, to run for the office next spring.
Mbeki has been South African president since 1999.Mbeki plans to meet with his Cabinet on Sunday to discuss his decision, and some Cabinet members might leave in a show of solidarity.

The president made no public comments, and it was unclear when his resignation would take effect.

Gwede Mantashe, secretary-general of the African National Congress, announced at a news conference earlier in the day in Johannesburg that the party — which Mbeki has been involved with since his teens — had asked him to leave before his term was up.

Mantashe said the ANC made the decision “for the citizens of South Africa, so there could be stability within the country” and so the ANC movement could remain “stable and unified.”

“The reaction of President Mbeki to the news, in my own view, was normal. He didn’t display shock or any depression. The party’s request to Mbeki came after a judge on September 12 threw out the corruption, fraud and racketeering case against Zuma, calling it invalid and accusing Mbeki’s government of political interference in the case.

The case against Zuma, who is ANC president, was thrown out in September 2006, but the National Prosecuting Authority recharged him. Judge Chris Nicholson made no ruling on Zuma’s guilt or innocence, and he could be recharged.

Political observers doubted that would happen because of Zuma’s popularity with the Communist Party and trade unions.

Zuma has denied the charges. He said the case was politically motivated, and harmed his chances to become the ANC’s presidential nominee.

Zuma had been facing at least 15 years in jail if convicted of accepting bribes from a company that got a contract in a multibillion-dollar arms deal.

He also faced charges of having a corrupt relationship with his former financial adviser, Schabir Shaik, who is serving a 15-year sentence for soliciting bribes for Zuma and using Zuma’s political influence to benefit his businesses.

Mbeki, 66, succeeded Nelson Mandela as president in June 1999. Critics of Mbeki alleged he pushed for the corruption charges against Zuma.

On Monday, Zimbabwe’s political rivals put aside the violent past and signed a power-sharing deal intended to end the crisis that has paralyzed the country since the disputed national elections in March.

Pundits have been saying for years that the mobile Web will dwarf the non-mobile Web once enough people have access to so-called smartphones and all of the bells and whistles that come with them. Paying for London Underground travel and goods using a Nokia phone has proved a big success for 500 testers during trials.

O2 ran the six-month trial, which involved putting Oyster card technology and a Barclaycard Visa card into a Nokia 6131 handset.

Nine out of ten of O2’s testers reported that they were happy to use the near-field communications (NFC) technology, with convenience, ease of use and the boon of having such a unique device all scoring highly with the satisfied participants.

Almost nine out of ten (89 per cent) claimed they would use it again and it was apparently noticeable that one in five of the special Nokia owners made more journeys on public transport than they would normally have done during the period of the experiment.

Nokia will now have a keen interest in trying to make Nokia mobile phone Tube travel a reality - 87 per cent of the testers said the ability to use Oyster on a mobile phone was likely to influence their choice of phone.

What’s in it for the man and women on the street though? Well, ask yourself the question which item would you be likely to notice had gone missing first - a bank card in a purse or wallet buried among lapsed gym membership cards or a treasured mobile phone?

If the answer is the latter then that could go some way to allaying fears that losing your mobile would mean losing your bank details too.

The six-month trial also involved the Nokia owners being able to use their handsets to buy goods at selected stores such as EAT, YO! Sushi, and Krispy Kreme.

Industry opinion that using mobile ‘wallets’ could become a widespread reality within the next two years is an appetising proposition.

Ingredients:

1 Chicken Leg or Breast
1 tsp Light Soy Sauce
Dash of Pepper
Dash of Sesame Oil
300ml Chicken Stock
1 tin Cream Style Corn (about 400g)
1 Tbsp Light Soy Sauce
1 Egg, beaten
2 tsp Cornflour mixed with 2 Tbsp Water

Method:

Remove the skin & fat from the chicken. Cut into thin strips.
Marinade chicken with the seasoning ingredients*.
Heat up chicken stock and creamed corn in a large pot. Add 1 Tbsp light soy sauce.
When hot, add in beaten egg and stir gently, so the egg cooks in strands.
Add cornflour mixture to thicken.
Divide the soup into individual bowls.
Heat up non-stick frying pan. Stir-fry chicken strips until cooked.
Scatter a few strips of chicken over the surface of each bowl of soup.
Serve.

Most students find it stubborn to resist spending their entire loan or grant - even if they’ve only got their hands on a part of it - as quickly as possible. But blowing your student accommodation by Christmas is not clever.

With what seems like a lot of cash in your bank account or the knowledge that it will be on its way there soon, the temptation to whine the entire amount on a top of the range computer or the latest in home entertainment equipment is huge.

But with the majority of graduates starting out in their working lives deep in debt, this is not a wise move. Even if you are lucky enough to have a grant or scholarship, there is a very high likelihood that it simply is not enough to see you through college and so you’ve had to take out loans as well. And you will have to pay back your loans,with interest, even if that seems a big way in the future. So what can you do to avoid being flat broke by Christmas?

Work out how much you actually need before Christmas for hole, bills, food and other essentials, add in something for entertainment and stick the rest in a savings account, with the highest rate of interest you can get. Not much, these days, granted, but outstrip than nothing. Don’t touch this account before Christmas, except in dire emergencies, such as illness or starvation.

If you don’t already have your own computer, use the computers provided by the college. Many disciple will already have their own personal computers or laptops and so there should be enough on campus to go around. If not, find out what times of the day or week they are used least and do your work then. It’ll probably be early mornings, example evenings or weekends.

So choose whichever works best for your schedule and your biorhythms. This will have the added advantageously of helping you to work out a study schedule, which will also enable you to get your assignments in on time.

At least that s the intention of its authors at the National Institute of Occupational Safety Health. Officials at the federal agency are scheduling a meeting this fall to get feedback from peer review scientists to ensure details are technically sound. Community members and labor advocates will also be invited and encouraged to offer suggestions of their own. The date and place are yet to be determined although the meeting will be in the Triple Cities area possibly in November. It s part of the attempt to involve workers and their representatives friends and families said Fred Blosser a spokesman for NIOSH. Wanda Hudak put it this way We r! e trying to bring the regular Joes to the table. Hudak is coordinator of a citizens group called the Western Broome Environmental Stakeholders Coalition which works with health and environmental officials to understand environmental and health issues affecting Southern Tier communities. The study expected to take years plans to tap personnel files dating to the early s that document the IBM work force at the microelectronics campus on North Street. Researchers plan to cross reference the IBM records with cancer and death records kept by state and federal government agencies to log the number of workers who developed cancer during their employment or any time after. Researchers from the state Department of Health are seeing if it s also feasible to cross reference the IBM files with records kept by the state to determine if children of women employed at the Endicott plant were more likely to suffer birth defects. IBM is providing the employee files along with information abo! ut what chemicals were used in various parts of the plant now owned by Huron Real Estate Associates. IBM will continue to cooperate with NIOSH just as we have done in the past said IBM spokesman Michael Maloney. He could not say whether the company would have a representative at the fall meeting. NIOSH officials said it is unlikely the study will provide a causal relationship between illness and exposure to a specific chemical because so many different chemicals were used at the plant many of them known toxic substances and carcinogens. Nevertheless documenting illnesses among workers is a critical starting point to fruitful discussions about worker safety said Rick White a labor advocate with AllianceIBM a labor group. More schools than ever are banning peanuts and peanut products as the number of kids diagnosed with the potentially life threatening allergy has climbed dramatically in recent years. While doctors try to figure out the reasons for the rise the situation pits parents against each other and puts school districts in the middle. Lisa Searles was shocked at how mad parents got in April when she asked the board of education in Seymour Conn. to ban peanut butter at her son s elementary school. People were extremely rude she said. They just thought it was a ridiculous request. People left nasty posts on local message boards. One online writer suggested ending the issue by putting all the allergic children in a room together and feeding them peanuts Searles said. When officials at Rock Creek Elementary School in O Fallon Mo. banned peanut butter Jennifer Kaiser took a more reasoned approach. She attended a meeting and suggested the school find a compromise that would allow students t! o continue to pack peanut butter sandwiches and keep students with allergies safe. I thought there were better ways to handle it the mother of two said. As a community our job is to teach our kids to live in the world. Banning peanuts she said is not teaching children how to grow up in the real world. Parents opposed to the bans have an unlikely ally an advocacy group for people with food allergies. Even though Spain needed overtime to put away China their overall talent with Jose Calderon and Pau Gasol anchoring the offense could give Team USA a run for their money. Look for Spain to rotate a fresh five often to compete in transition come Saturday. Lithuania who is physically imposing to say the least disposed of reigning Olympic champions Argentina thanks to Linas Kleiza s three pointer in their opening game as they remain perfect at . The FAAN Walk for Food Allergy Moving Toward a Cure is scheduled to be held in Long Branch on Sept. to raise awareness as well as funds for food allergy education and research. People don t realize how hard it is said Tim McLoone owner of the local McLoone s Pier House and McLoone s Rum Runner who is acting as honorary chairman of the event. It s one of! those situations that needs a light shone on it he said. McLoone s year old daughter Hannah has a peanut allergy and suffered a reaction to peanut butter as a young toddler. She had a peanut butter cracker and ballooned right away McLoone said adding that he and his family have since been on guard at school parties and other situations where food is served. McLoone s daughter is one of nearly New Jersey schoolchildren who have food allergies which have no cure. An estimated people die every year from fatal reactions and another people visit the emergency room to receive lifesaving treatment for food induced anaphylaxis according to the release. The Walk for Food Allergy raises awareness and funds for food allergy education and research according to a press release from The Food Allergy Anaphylaxis Network FAAN . The allergy walks are held nationwide to support FAAN the world s largest nonprofit organization providing information about food allergy to the media schools health professionals pharmaceutical companies the food industry and governm! ent officials as well as the food allergic community. This year marks the first time the walk will be held in Long Branch and to register for the event or for more information visit www.foodallergywalk.org longbranch nj. The event is planned to start at the Great Lawn north of Pier Village at a.m. with check in for participants starting at a.m. Also planned for the event are food vendors with allergen free samples and entertainment will be provided by New Jersey rocker Ray Anderson also known as mr. RAY who will be headlining a concert following the walk. Although Anderson s family is not personally affected by food allergies he said he has met many parents who have made him aware of how serious and life threatening food allergies can be. Seeing the headlights of a minivan heading straight for the car she drove with three children on board the year old steered for the highway s shoulder. But the minivan headed there too. Graham! and two of her children year old Stacie and year old Bryan Jr. were killed upon impact in the crash on La. near the T Bois Bridge. Her year old daughter Audrey remains in critical but stable condition at University Hospital in New Orleans. Graham s mother Glenda Rousse of Galliano said her daughter would have been heartbroken had she lived. As much as I miss her and I am going to miss her Graham s mother said words frequently interrupted by sobs. I don t think she would have been able to survive knowing two of her kids were dead. Rousse said she is confident Audrey her surviving granddaughter will make a full recovery. State Police said the Honda Odyssey minivan s driver year old Binh Pham of Larose told them she fell asleep behind the wheel. The collision s force left the car s front end bent on a degree angle with its front tires. The car s passenger side door was lodged in the van s front end which also suffered heavy damage. Graham wore her seat belt. None of her child! ren did however. It s unlikely a seat belt would have saved the lives of anyone in the front seat Dardar said but it could have potentially saved the year old. Dardar added his heart goes out to Graham s family. It s the ultimate worst call you possibly can get he said. I just couldn t imagine. Binh Pham told State Police she was en route to her family s East nd Street home. Her father mother and younger brother were in the van with her. She had consumed an energy drink shortly before the crash. Pham and her parents were too distraught to discuss the wreck. Her sister Nina Tran spoke on her behalf. She said Pham finished her last exam Saturday morning thus ending her second semester at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. The South Lafourche High School honors graduate plans to major in family pediatrics. At various times as Tran talked about her sister she reached her fingers underneath her sunglasses to wipe away tears. She spoke of great sorrow for the Graham family and also expressed hope that people might understand the wreck was an! accident. She has such a bright future Tran said of her sister. I know this will take a heavy toll. Graham s father Glen Rousse said he is disturbed because the apparently over tired Pham was driving even though her parents were in the car. Why weren t they driving if she was tired he said. For Dawn Graham Saturday began as a routine day of mother s chores. She worked with Audrey an eighth grader at Larose Cut Off Middle School on a school project prior to their fateful drive to Lockport. She was taking Audrey to a friend s house about p.m. for a sleepover when the crash occurred. Plans called for a return to Larose and dinner at the La Casa del Sol restaurant with the two youngest children and their grandparents. A Mother s Day dinner was planned at Rousse s home for Sunday. Instead the grieving grandmother found herself visiting Audrey at the hospital in New Orleans. Rousse said Graham raised the children alone for the past five years after divorcing Bryan Graham Sr. her! husband of years. He now lives in West Virginia and they would have visited him in July. My daughter loved her kids. She would do anything for them Graham s father said. Anything for her children included quitting her job at McDonald s in Cut Off earlier this year so she could spend more time with her daughter Stacie a third grader at Cut Off Elementary whom Rousse described as autistic. The children also spent a good bit of time in Galliano with their grandparents. Their grandfather kept soft drinks for them in an outside cooler and sweets inside on top of the refrigerator. He described Audrey an enthusiast for vampire books as outgoing and smart and Bryan Jr. a second grader at Cut Off Elementary School as a go getter. His wife recalled Stacie s tendency to tremble when she got excited as she did when she told her grandmother she d see her at the restaurant. Their life ended before it started the children s grandfather said. I will never forget them. I will never forget this day. Aftershocks reached beyond the homes of the two families. Som! e of Graham s former co workers at McDonald s broke into tears at the mere mention of her name Sunday afternoon. Co workers Veronda Cheramie and Loritta Dufrene said they had second thoughts about coming to work after learning of the deaths. They recalled Graham s cheerful attitude her love for her children and her frequent visits to the drive through window to stop and chat. Graham worked for more than a year at the McDonald s mostly working the drive through. She would do anything for her kids Graham s former co worker Veronda Cheramie said adding she was a good friend and listener. She was a very nice person very kindhearted Dufrene said. Feed on Posts Comments Monday morning meanderings.Vol. May by Greg Sayre Oklahoma We are back here in beautiful Western Oklahoma after a week plus in Washington. While some of the state has had tornados and really high winds we have only had the high winds sustained mph and gusts to . They aren t really dangerous so much as annoying. If it wasn t for the wind the weather here would be perfect. Oh well you can t have it all We are thankful for such a beautiful place to be and great friends to be here with. Item one. First Myanmar and now China . First the hurricanes and now earthquakes. Thousands of people gone in a few seconds. The devastation is beyond my imagination and I am sure the pictures don t show the half of it. We all complain about the price of fuel and what it does to the economy and it does affect us all but very few of us feel any real pain related to increases in fuel and comm! odities. This morning I am thinking about how fortunate I am to live here in America where even though we aren t all we should be we are always the first to respond when someone else s life is broken. For those of us who are Kingdom people that is a prophetic word for how we must be as we respond to the needs of people all around us. Be thankful be hopeful be bold be fruitful we are such blessed people Item two. You can file this one in the who cares folder but does it bother anyone else that the two Democrat candidates for prez have together spent nearly million dollars just to get the nomination The figures can be found here . These numbers are a month old too. That is just stupid. You would think with so much money available we could at least have one candidate that actually seems to have some real ideas some some real vision or even something substantive to offer. I really don t care and I doubt you to either but for this kind of money I sure wish I did. Item three. In ! the last M I linked to a blog I like called Stuff Christians like . I was reading through several of the blogs I read regularly and discovered soon after my posting of this site that there were links on several of these sites to SCL too . I thought that was pretty cool since they are all young writers and so to think they would link to a site I know doubt turned them on to makes me feel so special. Royal has a great new job and opportunity to get an advanced degree on his new company so they are making the move from the Northwest to Wichita Kansas. Only three potential American Idols left and one will be gone this week leaving the two who will do the show finale next week. A month ago I had my top as David C. Syesha and Carley. Should never have bet against David A. because the country loves him. Carley went off two weeks ago but out of isn t bad. Who do I pick for the big winner Like I said hard to bet against David A. Should come down to one of the two Davids. In between item three and four I drove to the OKC airport with my friend Cody Custer to pick up our friend Destry Haught who! was flying in from Arizona. Destry is one of the young pastors we spent time with when we were in Arizona this winter. He is a self employed man who makes his living riding horses what they call breaking a horse doing horse dentistry and building fence . He will do all three while he is here. He is such a unique man with a powerful testimony of what God can do with a life given over to the walking in the Spirit. We are looking forward to some good visits with Destry. The Bee Gees are to be honoured for their contribution to pop music with the unveiling of a special plaque in London. Brothers Barry Robin and Maurice Gibb were one of the biggest acts of the s and won multiple Grammy Awards during their year career. The tribute is the latest in a long line of green plaques celebrating the achievements of some of Westminster s most famous former residents including Oscar Wilde TS Eliot and Jane Austen. BP Despite what many in the mainstream media say a majority of Americans and an even larger majority of religiously affiliated citizens don t believe that Christians are too involved in politics a new poll shows. Over half of all Americans surveyed percent disagreed with the statement I am concerned that at times Christians are too involved in politics accordin! g to a survey conducted through a joint project of LifeWay Research and the Southern Baptist Convention s Ethics Religious Liberty Commission. Ed Stetzer director of LifeWay Research in Nashville said that when it comes to sharing the Gospel and also being engaged with public policy Christians can do both. I t is . both and not either or he said. You cannot stand for justice and be told you cannot speak of Jesus nor can you love God and His word and not care for unborn children the abused and social justice. The findings released May challenge the assertion of secularists who say that Americans religious beliefs should be purely a private matter and should be somehow segregated from weighty discussions of social issues and public policy. Forty four percent of Americans agreed percent strongly and percent somewhat with the assertion that Christians were often too embroiled in politics. When researchers asked those who attend religious services of any type at least weekly rej! ection of the premise was even greater percent of those polled indicated a high degree of comfort with the notion of Christians being involved in politics. Only one in five percent either said they strongly agreed or somewhat agreed with the contention that Christians are too engaged politically. Americans who described themselves as born again evangelical or fundamentalist including Southern Baptist respondents expressed the highest degree of disapproval percent with the statement that at times Christians are too involved in politics with just over a quarter percent of these individuals telling researchers they agreed strongly or somewhat with the statement. Most Southern Baptist pastors percent surveyed indicated their disagreement with a claim that believers are too involved in politics with percent somewhat disagreeing and percent strongly disagreeing. Only eight percent of Southern Baptists pastors surveyed agreed strongly with the statement that Christians are too involved in politics with percent saying they somewhat agreed. These resul! ts do not surprise me at all said Richard Land president of the Ethics Religious Liberty Commission. They underscore and reinforce the feedback I get on a consistent basis from grassroots Christians of all perspectives. The survey results are very much in line with the involvement of people of faith throughout our nation s history with political issues that have a moral component Land added. Perhaps the most dramatic examples of religiously motivated movements generated in reaction to grave social injustice are the abolitionist movement against human bondage and the civil rights movement in opposition to segregation and racial injustice. The abolitionist and the civil rights movements are not explicable or comprehensible apart from the religiously motivated outrage that created them the religious leaders who led them and the religious supporters who made possible their eventual triumph. Warning there may be a temptation for some Christians to craft an informal alliance with! a single political party Stetzer said Christians need to speak prophetically to all parties not be beholden to one. If evangelicals are seen as a voting bloc of the Republican Party I am concerned. If Christians are told to leave their faith outside the public square I am more concerned. Land added that people of faith have an obligation to be involved in the process and to do so in a principled issue oriented fashion. We should be voting our values beliefs and convictions based upon our understanding of the imperatives of our faith he said. Yet there is a balance to be considered when one s faith is brought into the political arena Stetzer said adding As evangelicals we need to not try to moralize the unconverted. Our primary mission is to convert the immoral other sinners like us. In the survey conducted by a national polling firm for LifeWay Research and the ERLC more than random Americans were polled by telephone April .
